There’s nothing quite like a fresh manicure, and when it comes to fall there is no shortage of nail trends and inspiration. So if you’re looking for your new fall nail look, we’ve got you covered—and a lot of them you can do yourself.

Instagram and TikTok are full of heavenly nail art, from Aurora nails to simple pastel yellow nails, which were named the most popular nail color of the year. But they are often very complicated, and look like only a professional could possibly create them.

But with Autumn, you can probably already guess, comes a lot of browns, and oranges—groundbreaking, we know. But they are incredibly chic and easy enough for you to do at home with minimal effort—we promise!

1. Ombre nails

If you’re an avid social media user you will have seen Ombre nails everywhere. Ombre nails combine two either bold or complementary colors and they are blended together, creating a seamless transition from one color to another.

They may sound complicated, but thanks to TikTok, we’ve found some simple hacks to create the trend.

How to do ombre nails:

User @HannahWeir explains that all we need is a sponge and three or four colors, including white nail polish. She uses a range of pink hues.

Then you just need to paint stripes down your sponge of each shade, then add a layer of white and start pressing the sponge to your nails. You will have to keep reapplying the coats to the sponge—but the finished product looks so worth it.

2. Mixed Mattes

One of our favorite new trends emerging is mixed mattes. A combo of glossy nail polish and matte shades. To make this trend really autumnal, opt for brown and neutral shades.

How to do mixed matte nails:

Simply paint your whole nail with either the matte or the glossy color - and then apply whichever you did not use to the tip of your nails—this will give you a gorgeous edgy, and unique nail look.

TikToker @LightsLacquer created the perfect fall mixed matte looks—and if you’re worried about how to create the tip shape, you can get a little angled paintbrush that will make it a lot easier.

3. French Tips

French tips never go out of style, they are effortless and always cute, and they’re a trend Kylie Jenner loves right now.

Right now nail lovers are opting for pastel tips or a mix of neutral tones. There’s also an ingenious hack making the rounds on TikTok to create the perfect tip easily. All you need is a nail stamper tool.

How to do french tip nails:

Paint your nail with your desired base color, then take your tip color and apply a generous amount to the stamper. Simply push your nail at an angle into the stamper slowly, and it will leave you with a perfect angled tip.

It may take a few practice runs but once you nail it (sorry!) you’ll be able to create a french manicure whenever you want.

4. Checks

Checks are having a real moment right now, and they're the perfect pattern to wear on our nails.

The color we're loving most—and seeing the most—is green and white, as perfectly shown by nail IT girl, Melanie (@overglowedit) on Instagram.

How to do checkered nails:

Obviously, these are a bit more complicated, but you can use clever bits of tape to block off sections to fill in—or freehand it, it's okay if they're not exact, the overall look will still work.

5. Minimal abstract

The minimal abstract nail trend involves a lot of bold and vibrant wavy lines with each nail a little bit different from the rest. This trend may need a thin nail brush, but you can create some great patterns with the nail polish brush.

How to do minimal abstract nails:

You can really go wild with this one. You can try two-tone tips, or paint your nails clear and just have half of your nail covered in a pastel color, in a wave shape. For the Fall months, we'd opt for brown neutrals or greens.

TikTok user @baongocl nail tutorial is the perfect example of how cute these nails look.

6. Metallics

If you’re feeling extra festive, metallics are the way to go. We’ll be seeing a lot of chrome, metallic nails this year.

How to do metallic nails:

Another plus to this trend is you can just find metallic nail polish and paint your whole nails with it. But if you want really icy nails you can add glitter or a shimmery pigment.

7. Daisies

One of our favourite trends has to be the daisy nail trend, it’s a 90s dream and the colour combinations are endless.

How to do Daisy nails:

To create a flower pattern on your nails, all you need to do is one middle dot, and five dots around it—yes really, it’s that easy!

You can either use the nail polish brush to dot on the colour, or buy a dotting tool, for smaller more precise dots.
