Are Maya Jama and Stormzy back together? That is indeed the question fans are obsessing over after the exes were spotted together yet again.

Despite all the buzz around this latest sighting, these reconciliation rumors have been swirling for quite some time. In fact, back in 2022, Stormzy sent fans into overdrive with the release of his new album This Is What I Mean, which he'd previously described as being heavily influenced by his past relationship with the now-Love Island host.

And while we're on the subject of Love Island, though you'd think all the season 10 drama would have steered the attention away from Maya Jama's boyfriend sitch, it seems fans are desperate for any intel. Plus, Maya was caught liking a few of Stormzy's Instagram posts—with the pair even following each other—and now, of course, there are these rather cozy-looking backstage snaps. So, do we really have a Maya Jama/Stormzy reunion on our hands, or is this all pure speculation?

When did Maya Jama and Stormzy get together?

Maya Jama and Stormzy first started seeing each other all the way back in 2015, though they didn't go public with their relationship until the following year. The pair were together for four years before announcing their break-up in 2019—and it wouldn't be a stretch to say that fans have been pining for a reunion ever since.

It's not clear why the pair split exactly but at the time, rumors were swirling that the rapper had perhaps been unfaithful to his TV presenter girlfriend, causing their separation. However, Stormzy quickly dispelled those rumors during a YouTube interview at the beginning of 2020, saying, "Do you know what? I actually didn't cheat. I swear to God, I didn't cheat."

"So we had broken up and I was out publicly being a rapper, being very inconsiderate to the fact that I've just come out of the most public relationship. We'd broken up and I went out and I acted disrespectfully.

Per the Daily Mail, the rapper revealed to Louis Theroux: "My breakup, that was probably the biggest catalyst for growth as a man. It was like, 'OK, you made a mistake and you lose someone you loved, someone you cared for, someone who is special to you.'"

The couple's split proved to be a shock to their fans, given that the pair had, in 2018, bought a property together and that Stormzy had admitted he was keen to propose to his girl. Speaking to the Sunday Mirror at the time, he said, "I’m still so young but I want to propose, it’s going to happen and I will do it right. She is so sick, she is the best."

Following the release of his 2022 album This Is What I Mean Stormzy addressed their split again, in an interview with GQ, saying: "I think my break up with Maya was still really heavy on my heart. I’d never experienced a breakup and the feelings that come with a breakup."

He continued, "And I never wanted to ever be in a position again where I felt what I was feeling. Because it showed me that I was a boy. And I do not want to go any further as a boy. I’ve seen how that manifests in other people. And I don’t want to be like that."

Are Maya Jama and Stormzy back together?

WELL! There have indeed been some developments in this department after months of speculation that Maya and Stormzy were indeed back in contact. But before we get to that, let's take a deep dive into when these reconciliation rumors first cropped up...

As mentioned, speculation around the couple first began back in 2022, after the release of Stormzy's latest album. He also touched on their relationship in September 2022 in an interview with presenter and documentary maker, Louis Theroux.

“That’s probably the biggest loss a man can have, isn’t it? Away from someone passing away, that’s the biggest loss you can have...I didn’t do what a man should do to fully appreciate love, and care for his woman.”

Maya also went on to debunk the romance rumors in January 2023, telling The Sunday Times, ahead of her first Love Island stint (one of Maya Jama's many TV shows): "I’m really, really single right now. Newly single. It’s only been a month, but it’s nice." She was, of course, referring to her previous engagement to NBA player, Ben Simmons.

A rep for Maya also denied rumors that the couple had reconciled in late 2022, telling  Digital Spy that reports are "false" and that "Maya and Stormzy remain great friends."

2023: WHERE DO MAYA AND STORMZY STAND NOW?

Let's just say, August 2023 brought with it some rather compelling visual evidence that the pair are back on good terms and seemingly in a relationship.

Following her 'Leo Season' themed vacation to Ibiza (which by the way, gave us all the FOMO), Maya jetted back to the UK and was spotted on Friday, August 18, backstage at the All Points East festival in London’s Victoria Park, with her rapper ex, following his headlining performance.

In the pictures obtained by The Sun, the pair could be seen laughing and hanging out, with an insider telling the publication: "Maya and Stormzy may not be officially dating anymore, but they are still close and grew up together. She is really proud of him and vice versa.

"They’ll always have a special bond. They spent time catching up and chatting, people were looking at them and giving them their space."

THEN, to up the ante, news broke in late August of the two walking hand-in-hand on a tropical Greece vacation. Stormzy, decked out in all white, was standing beside Jama, who was wearing a black bikini top, a white, flowy dress, and a wide-brimmed straw hat. According to sources, they were vacationing on Hydra Island as a late birthday celebration for the Love Island host.

Sources told The Sun that Stormzy's mother is the one who pushed for a reconciliation between the two. The anonymous source also added, "Stormzy is really open about wanting to settle down and have kids one day and he knows Maya is 'The One.'"

Circling back to when these romance rumors first started gaining traction, a source claimed to the Sun ahead of Love Island 2023, that the pair were back in Contact. They told the publication on May 10, 2023: "The truth is she’s actually back in regular contact with Stormzy and has been heading to his house to meet up away from the spotlight.

“She visited him a couple of times before her recent holiday to Thailand and it sounds as though they’ve really clicked again."

The source then also added: "The connection never went away. They’re both keen to tiptoe around it a bit rather than throw themselves into anything public but they’re enjoying being close again."

Though speculations have been proven incorrect in the past, it would appear that the two are rekindling their romance.

Which Stormzy song is about Maya Jama?

From Stormzy's discography, there are actually a few songs that could be about Maya, especially from his latest album This Is What I Mean, which the rapper himself has revealed was heavily inspired by their past relationship.

'Firebabe'

First of all, many fans think 'Firebabe' is about Maya, mainly because she's a Leo which is—you guessed it—a fire sign. Fans also felt the actress Stormzy chose for the music video looked rather familiar...

He also references his previous song 'Lessons' in the verse: "Listenin’ to Lessons, that’s a lesson taught." If you need a reminder, he mentions Maya by name on that, saying his nephew keeps asking for his aunty Maya.

'Fire + Water'

'Fire + Water' is also thought to be about the star, with lyrics like: "I ain't spillin' all my truth to try and stress you with it, I was workin' on my flaws to try impress you with it, and you don't believe the growth but, yeah, I guess you're with it, right?"

One fan Tweeted in response to this particular song: "I’ve said it… I want Stormzy and Maya to get back together. We all make mistakes Fire + Water."

'Need You'

'Need You' is another song that appears to reference their breakup, with Stormzy saying: "I heard in the news about the guy you’re dating, you see my new girl she’s fire...you don’t care much and I ain’t hating." Again, seemingly referencing her star sign...

'Bad Blood'

In 'Bad Blood' he appears to touch on why they broke up, saying: "Maybe if you came in with a lower guard, maybe if we got off to a slower start, we didn’t even grow apart, we just fell apart, that’s the saddest part and I had your heart, that’s the maddest part." Emotional stuff.

The Maya Jama and Stormzy relationship seems to be back on, so here's hoping the two can make things work this go-around!
