Samantha Fink has hit a rough patch, to say the least. The new series Single Drunk Female follows the twentysomething's pursuit towards sobriety, but her journey is definitely bumpy.
After showing up intoxicated to work at her splashy New York City media company, Samantha is fired and forced to return to Boston to live with her smothering mother. She's sentenced to rehab and community service, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. (Wait until you hear her best friend's news.)
As Samantha's mother Carol says—white wine in hand—"It's hard to be a person." Will Samantha be able to figure it all out?
Girls' Jenni Konner and Russian Dolls' Leslye Headland are a few of the heavyweights behind the new series, and it's inspired by writer, creator and executive producer Simone Finch's real-life story.
Typically, we don't think of alcoholism in a comedic way, but this show flips the script and adds a humorous element to an uncomfortable, but common issue. (A complete 180 for those who are currently bingeing Euphoria season 2.)
"I think that sobriety is really serious and staying sober is of the utmost importance for me and many others," Finch tells Entertainment Weekly (opens in new tab). "But laughing at ourselves is great medicine."
You're going to want to put this one on your radar, folks—uncomfortable moments and all. Here's what you need to know.

We're all anxious to see how everything unfolds for our struggling protagonist and, of course, we're all rooting for her along the way. Though it's too soon to comment on season two, Finch has said she would definitely be interested in keeping Samantha's story going.
"I think we could go into greater depth," she reveals to Entertainment Weekly. "In every season 1, you learn things. And I think not having your story be always about relapsing is really important. My goal is to show sobriety."
