Who is John Stanaland? He passed along his real estate chops to his son, Tyler Stanaland, who's involved in California's luxury market (and one of Netflix's very popular reality TV shows).

Now that Selling the OC season 2 has hit screens, we're revisiting famous faces from the brokerage. Although John is not part of the Oppenheim Group, he did help his son get his feet wet, so it only makes sense to dig into his legacy. Here's what you need to know.

Who is John Stanaland (a.k.a. Tyler Stanaland's dad)?

As it happens, Tyler has been in the real estate industry his whole life, as he's grown up in the family business. His father is a renowned real estate agent and part of the John Stanaland Group, a family-run brokerage that sells luxury coastal homes in Laguna Beach. According to his bio, John "represents a 100+ year lineage of real estate professionals in his family, which has included agents, developers, attorneys, and financiers." (Now he's adding "real estate reality TV star" to that list thanks to his son.)

If you were wondering what real estate royalty looks like, it's safe to say Tyler Stanaland's father is it. Throughout his career, John has made record-setting sales totaling billions. He's also received a number of accolades along the way and earned a personable and reliable reputation in the process.

Did John Stanaland leave Villa Realty?

Even top professionals in the field make changes from time to time. In early 2023, Stanaland left Villa Real Estate and brought his eponymous team over to Douglas Elliman.

"I sell a lot of real estate, and a lot of my clientele is bi-coastal; it’s from all over the country, it’s international," he told The Orange County Register. "Aligning myself with Douglas Elliman will give me the ability to give that much more service to my clients and also expand my business that much more."

Considering he's received over $4.5 billion in home sales in less than 30 years, we're sure his legacy will continue well into this new chapter.

What's John Stanaland's net worth?

Ready for some impressive math? John earned over $4.5 billion in home sales in less than 30 years, of which $600 million came in the last two years. Yowza! As far as his personal affairs, John Stanaland is estimated to be worth roughly $35 million.

Where does his son stack up in comparison? What about Tyler's O Group colleagues? Check out the Selling the OC cast net worths to see where everyone stacks up.

What is John Stanaland's Instagram?

If you're looking to keep up with the Stanaland fam as you binge-watch Selling the OC, you can find John at @johnstanaland.

On his Insta, he of course shares obligatory snaps of glamorous homes he's successfully sold, plus some cute family snaps. In fact, he's even started plugging Selling the OC, by posting the trailer to his feed. We love a supportive dad!

He even makes an appearance at the Oppenheim Group's launch party in the debut episode, where Tyler introduces him to his new boss, Jason Oppenheim. In season 2 of Selling the OC, we catch Tyler holding an open house for his most expensive listing yet, a connection that he made through his father, though John is not actually in any of the new episodes.

Tyler Stanaland's father isn't the only real estate royalty in town...

Stanaland isn't the only one showing his son the ropes. Much like his colleague Gio Helou, whose mum Lisa also works for the O-group, Tyler is no stranger to working alongside his nearest and dearest. In fact, Gio's father, Carol Helou, is truly the one who got him into the game.

"My dad is a builder," Gio told Real Tea. "I actually started working with him. And it was really great learning the building side of things and understanding how much things cost for clients if they want to remodel or build their dream home from scratch. So it was great to be able to bring that to the sales side when I joined my mom about four years ago."

Looks like life at the O Group is truly a family affair.

Selling the OC season 2 is now streaming on Netflix.
