It's official: The White Lotus season 2 is happening! Are fans headed back to Maui and, more importantly, will Jennifer Coolidge be involved?

Not all that glitters is gold, even in Maui. But the idea of a White Lotus season 2 certainly does. The six-episode first season of the popular HBO dramedy has been helping us successfully fight off the Sunday Scaries since its debut in July 2021—especially thanks to the always-welcome presence of Jennifer Coolidge.

Now, fans are eager to learn more about the next chapter of the miniseries as season 1 wraps up on Sunday, August 15th. (Trust us, the show will inspire you to explore HBO Max free trials if you haven't done so already.)

So will there be a second season? Let's dive in.

Catch up before The White Lotus season 2

Before we tackle The White Lotus season 2, let's back up for those who have been too busy bingeing Love Island. (We get it—you'll get a pass this time around.) Here's everything you need to know about the highly buzzed-about hit, which will come to a close shortly, much to our disappointment.

Cast of The White Lotus: Who's who?

Say "aloha" to some of your new favorite Hawaiian vacationers and hotel employees. Here are The White Lotus characters and the actors who portray them:

  • Murray Bartlett as Armond
  • Natasha Rothwell as Belinda
  • Connie Britton as Nicole
  • Steve Zahn as Mark
  • Sydney Sweeney as Olivia
  • Brittany O'Grady as Paula
  • Fred Hechinger as Quinn
  • Jennifer Coolidge as Tanya
  • Alexandra Daddario as Rachel
  • Jack Lacey as Shane
  • Molly Shannon as Kitty

What is The White Lotus about?

Although vacationers are en route to paradise, even cushy accommodations in Maui aren't what they seem. And the visitors' reasons for getting away? Well, they're to escape their reality.

Rachel and Shane get an unexpected visitor on their honeymoon, while Nicole and Mark attempt to hide his cancer diagnosis from their children, and Tanya attempts to grieve the loss of her mother while staying zen in the spa. Oh, and did we mention that there's been a murder?

Watch how the travelers' lives intertwine with one another, and even The White Lotus Hotel staffers, while there. It certainly makes for an interesting marathon!

Where is the White Lotus filmed?

The miniseries was filmed at the Four Seasons resort in Maui, Hawaii in late 2020, according to Vox.

How many episodes is White Lotus? (Plus how to watch)

Sadly, the first season of the series only consists of six episodes. The final one will air on August 15th on HBO and HBO Max at 9pm ET. You can watch the first episode online for free, even if you aren't a subscriber.

However, like us, you'll likely get hooked quickly, so you'll need an HBO Max subscription to view the rest. You can sign up below!

Is the White Lotus season 2 happening?

Good news, everyone! The White Lotus season 2 is definitely happening. We learned of the show's fate right before the season 1 finale, and we're certainly glad that the travel-related shenanigans will continue.

Fans and loyal HBO viewers aren't terribly surprised by this move, considering the network is known for continuing successful miniseries (like Big Little Lies). Plus, it's the highest-ranking show on HBO Max, and who wants to part ways with this success story? (Certainly not us!)

"Mike has once again delivered a quintessential HBO show, and it’s the talk of the town," said Francesca Orsi, executive vice president, HBO Programming, in a press release. "We were thrilled to hear where he wanted to go next, after closing this epic chapter in Hawaii, and can’t wait to keep following him wherever he takes us.”

While speaking to TVLine earlier this year, White did hint that a second installment of The White Lotus could actually be entirely different than what we're used to in Maui.

"It would have to be a different hotel, like, say, The White Lotus: San Tropez or something," he told the outlet.

HBO has now confirmed that season 2 will indeed feature a new cast and a new location (although we're petitioning for Coolidge to stay). But whatever is coming our way, we're welcoming it with open arms. A release date has yet to be revealed, but stay tuned as we learn more information!

Until then, we'll see you in Maui.
