These sofa sex positions just might make you consider moving frisky activities from the bedroom to the living room (provided it's not occupied, of course).

With Valentine's Day on the horizon and popular 2023 sex trends like sensory play on the uptick, pairs are itching to get a little creative and change up the scenery. Not only is your couch a necessity during those Netflix marathons, but it could be your new go-to setting for intimate encounters.

"It's always fun to do something different and create a new sexual experience," says Marla Renee Stewart, MA, a sexpert for Lovers. "I think there are lots of advantages to the couch. You're able to get into [fun] positions and get into some aftercare and cuddly positions, laying down or reclining. I'd probably pick the couch over any type of chair situation."

If you'd prefer to leave the mattress for the best sleeping positions, here's what the sexperts suggest for the next coziest spot in the house.

Marla is a sexologist at Velvet Lips, a sexpert at Lovers and a lecturer in gender and women's studies at Clayton State University. She's also written for a variety of academic publications and presented at conferences. Above all, her goal is to get people in touch with their body, mind and spirit.

The best sofa sex positions according to the pros:

1. Over the edge

Stable, supportive and comfy, that IKEA futon has its perks—and it allows you to get a little creative, according to sex and relationship expert Melissa Stone, who recommends giving Over the Edge a go while on said futon.

"This sex position is very similar to doggy style, with one partner bent over and the other penetrating from behind, however, in the case the person bending over, is bent on the sofa armrest," she says. "This position is best to spice up your sex lives as you can play around with speed and stimulation, hitting the g-spot for some and can make you feel a little naughty."

2. Cowgirl style

Though a traditional approach, both Stewart and Stone believe that cowgirl style works wonders while on the couch, so giddy up!

"It's a great way to stimulate the woman's clitoris as this involves a lot of friction in the genital area," Stone says."It doesn’t create too much movement or fuss around changing positions to reach that desired climax."

3. The Lotus position

For a fun and sensual experience, Stewart suggests the Lotus. Make your partner get comfy in a seated position with their legs crossed while you put yourself on top.

"It's close, you can kiss, your bodies are next to each other, it's intimate and you can get a good rhythm for each other," she says.

Plus, not only will both parties have the support of the couch, but it'll feel easy on the knees for the penetrating partner. A little comfort is always appreciated.

4. The oral sex squat

If you're looking to try an oral sex position on the couch, fair warning, this will require a little more in the way of flexibility.

According to Stewart, this requires a person facing their partner "with their legs on the top of the sofa so their genitals are in their face and having their arms on their knees or sides to give them some leverage. Of course, that requires a little more acrobatics, but it can be fun."
