After snagging second place on Love Island 2022, the future is only getting brighter for Gemma and Luca, as the love birds have finally become official.

For those who need a recap, original islanders Gemma Owen and Luca Bish were paired up with different Love Island contestants at the beginning of this year's series (Davide Sanclimenti and Paige Thorne), but quickly realized they had feelings for one another and coupled up with each other in week three of the show.

It was pretty much smooth sailing for 19-year-old Gemma and 23-year-old Luca from then on—despite a few post-challenge arguments, and Luca's tensions with fellow contestant Tasha Ghouri—and they went on to get second place in the final.

Now, after a 'promposal'-esque gesture, the pair have finally taken things to the next level. So for all you Gemma and Luca stans out there—here's exactly what's been going between the pair since leaving the villa...

What have Gemma and Luca been up to?

Love Island fans caught their first glimpse of the lovebirds post-villa on the ITV2 reunion show, which was filmed just a week after the group departed from Mallorca.

At that point, the couple still hadn't yet been acquainted with each other's family and weren't yet official, but were still very happy in their relationship and excited to enjoy life after Love Island.

Gem even confessed that she liked Luca better away from the confines of the villa. She said: "Yeah, I like him so much better now! These last few days my feelings have gone like this," pointing upwards.

However, fans have noted that there appears to be some possible tension between Luca and Gemma and the rest of the Love Island crew.

While Indiyah Polack, Dami Hope, Paige Thorne and Adam Collard joined Tasha Ghouri and Andrew Le Page for Tasha's 24th birthday celebrations, Gemma and Luca were noticeably missing from the party in the capital.

Winner Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu also revealed that Gemma isn't a part of the girl's WhatsApp group, which she shares with Indiyah and Tasha instead.

Eek!

Did Luca ask Gemma to be his girlfriend?

Finally, the pair are officially boyfriend and girlfriend! Unlike several of their fellow islanders, the couple decided to wait until they were clear of the villa before they became exclusive—which while a great idea, did mean Luca had to up his game when it came to popping the all-important question.

We're relieved to say that he rose to the occasion and treated Gem to quite the romantic gesture.

Luca took to his Instagram Reels to share the special moment and clearly spared no expense. In the video, we saw him leading Gemma through a corridor decked out with red roses and candles, to a pool—which had balloons floating on the surface of the water that read 'Be my girlfriend.' Oh, and did we mention that there was a cellist playing?

Gemma was clearly delighted as she mouthed, 'Oh my God' before hugging him. He then handed her a Cartier bag—Lucky Girl! Inside was a gold bangle, which he helped her put on before the pair shared a kiss.

Taking to her own Instagram, Gemma shared a series of snaps from the girlfriend proposal and wrote: "Finally official ❤️Thank you @lucabish for such a special night!🥰"

Their fellow islanders were quick to congratulate them, with Love Island winner Ekin-Su commenting: "Luca did well 👏❤️congratulations."

With Paige adding: "About time 😍😍😍"

Had Luca met Gemma's dad?

Luca finally met Gemma's famous footballer dad after he flew out to meet her at the family's Quinta Do Lago property.

It seems their first meeting went swimmingly, with Gemma revealing exactly how it all went down on Capital Breakfast

She said: "It was so nice! We got away for four days, it was a bit of like, got a bit of content, bit of chill time but yeah it was a really nice environment for him to meet everyone. They all get on really well and how he was with my brothers and sisters as well, like, so cute."

Since returning to the UK, the pair have shared a number of sweet moments like this, with Luca even watching Gemma show off her dressage skills—they've even hinted at moving in together at some point, but since they have only just gone offish, we won't hold our breath for that happening any time soon.

What's next for Gemma and Luca?

The Love Island runners-up have been fairly tight-lipped about their plans for the future—both as a couple and individually—but their return to the UK will likely signal their return to work and normality. So what does the future hold for Gemma and Luca?

When it comes to their careers, things are coming up aces with Gemma landing a mind-blowing six-figure deal with Pretty Little Thing to become their newest brand ambassador.

Opening up about the deal to the Mail Online (opens in new tab), Gemma said: "This really is a dream come true for me. I wore PrettyLittleThing throughout my time on the show and now being announced as one of their newest ambassadors alongside some incredible talent including Love Island alumni is really special.

“The team has been amazing and I’m excited to get to work and start designing some collections for you all.” We can wait to see what she has in store for us—perhaps we'll even get a collection of Gemma's famous sunglasses? A gal can dream...

As for their future together, it's unclear if they'll move closer to each other. Luca's family home is down in Brighton, on the UK's South Coast, while Gemma lives with her family in a pretty fancy mansion in Cheshire, in the North West of England.

Though now they're officially an item, we expect that moving closer to each other is the next thing on their list.
