The Met Gala 2023 is fast approaching and will once again see a host of celebrities, dressed in all the finest trappings ascend the iconic, red carpet-clad steps of New York's Metropolitan Museum—but while the anticipation is real, the event is already proving to be dramatic. Here's exactly what's gone down...

The event is, by all accounts, one of the biggest fashion dates of the year (alongside the many global fashion weeks of course)—and so far, the list of most memorable Met Gala looks just keeps on growing. In previous years, we've seen the likes of Blake Lively and Zendaya's outfits earn them the title of best-dressed at the Met (by fans, but still!)—and this year promises to be yet another avant-garde feast for the eyes.

However, while the event is ever-iconic, it's never without its headline-making drama (take these Met Gala memes, for instance) and 2023's gala is already proving to be no exception, as rumors are swirling that a certain reality-show family has not been included in the exclusive Met Gala invite list...

Here's exactly what's going on with the Met Gala 2023 and everything else you need to know ahead of the fashion extravaganza...

What's going on with the Met Gala 2023?

While the Met is still months away (it takes place on Monday, May 1), the tea is already coming in hot after reports that the Kar-Jenner clan has not been invited to the event this year...

Are the Kardashians not invited to the Met Gala 2023?

Despite the Kardashians attending the Met Gala for a number of years in a row now (with Kim making her first debut in 2013), there's now speculation that the Kardashians' Met Gala era is at an end.

A source told Page Six that the reality family had not received an invite this year, claiming that Vogue's editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, was cracking down on the Met Gala 2023's invite list.

However, this is currently just speculation, as another source has debunked the rumors, telling the outlet they are 'not true.' So, we might have to wait and see if the Kar-Jenner clan does in fact appear on the red carpet...

Who is invited to the Met Gala 2023?

While the full invite list is never revealed ahead of the event, the Met Gala's co-chairs have been announced, with the likes of Dua Lipa, Michaela Coel, Penelope Cruz and Roger Federer making up the lineup.

It's likely we'll also see stars like Blake Lively, Timothée Chalamet and Hailey Bieber walk the red carpet—though we're currently manifesting that Zendaya will make her long-awaited return after she was absent from the 2022 Met Gala...

Were the Kardashians at the Met Gala 2022?

The Kardashians were indeed invited to the 2022 Met Gala, with Kendall debuting a dramatic bleach brow look, Kylie a wedding dress-like ensemble and Kim wearing Marilyn Monroe's iconic birthday dress, as she was accompanied by then-boyfriend, Pete Davidson. Kris Jenner and Khloe were also present, as were Kourtney and Travis.

Who is Anna Wintour?

Anna Wintour, 73, is the Editor-in-Chief of Vogue (since 1988) and has served as one of the Met Gala's chairs since 1995.

Anna also decides on which stars make the cut for the final Met Gala guest list, narrowing it down to around 600 attendees.

What's the theme of the Met Gala 2023?

This year's Met Gala theme, 'Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty', was announced in September 2022, to honor the late Chanel creative director, Karl Lagerfeld, with some attendees getting to wear pieces from his fashion archives.

This theme was met with some backlash, however, as the designer is known to have made a number of controversial statements throughout his life, with many fans of the event voicing their disappointment and outrage with the choice.
