So, if you're wanting to bring the glitz and disco vibes with a piece of silver attire, here's how to style the trend with confidence—plus a roundup of all our favorite silver celeb outfits to give you all the inspo...

How to wear the silver fashion trend in 2023

Silver is not exactly a groundbreaking 2023 fashion trend, as the color has cropped up throughout the decades, especially in the '90s and '00s.

Y2K style was famously packed with baby pinks and silvers (even when it came to 2000s beauty trends!)—remember Britney Spears' silver jumpsuit? '90s fashion was much the same, with silver slip dresses and sequins flooding the runway—take this Kate Moss moment for instance...

But after being out of the spotlight for a good few years, it seems to be making it back into the style charts this year. The color itself though is pretty interesting, as it gives off both retro and futuristic/spacey vibes—meaning it can actually be a very fun and versatile shade to introduce into your wardrobe.

How to style the silver fashion trend

As mentioned, silver is actually surprisingly versatile, despite its bold look. You can wear it as a standalone pop of color in your office fit, or as a sparkle going-out-out moment.

As Karen Millen's content manager, Maria Loizou notes: "The silver trend adds a luxurious and futuristic touch to women's style, and despite many only daring to style silver clothing pieces and accessories for special occasions, it is now a staple color to have in your wardrobe. It is easy to incorporate into everyday wear and enhances any night-time look, as it is incredibly versatile."

Styling silver 101:

  • Get to grips with silver's complimentary colors—Loizou says knowing which colors work with silver is a great start to building outfits around the shiny shade—aim for black, maroon, navy and whites to help the silver pop
  • Start with silver accessories—If you're new to silver, start small, perhaps with the best silver huggie hoops, silver bags, or even a cute pair of silver heels
  • Let the silver steel the show—If you're jumping on the silver fashion trend, let the shade be the main focal point, for instance—wear a silver midi skirt with an all-black outfit or a silver dress with a black blazer

Loizou says silver can really elevate a look—much like how jewelry can complete an outfit—adding: "You are already halfway there just by knowing what colors complement silver. Black is an obvious choice, allowing silver's sleekness and subtle sheen to speak for itself. Other colors that work well with silver are dark blues such as navy or royal blue, creams, and whites, as well as deep wine colors like burgundy and maroon."

So consider pairing a silver dress with a black blazer, or a silver long-sleeve top with some navy or white wide-leg pants! For an everyday look, you could even opt for a silver top with a pair of jeans—which would be very Y2K of you.

As for occasions, Loizous says: "silver is the perfect option to incorporate into an outfit, as lighter tones of silver complement the pastel aesthetics commonly chosen for weddings. But, if choosing an all-silver dress seems like too much for a guest outfit, opting for silver accessories to accompany an outfit is an attractive choice.

"By pairing a silver blouse or cowl neck top with a pair of your favorite black jeans, your outfit will remain sophisticated and elegant, perfect for everyday or office wear if paired with a sleek black blazer. If it’s the bottom half you want to jazz up, you could pair a silver midi or mini skirt with a black top, black tights, and black boots to stand out."
