There's a new Britney Spears Christina Aguilera feud and we're getting déjà vu

The 'Beautiful' singer denied a question about Britney Spears' conservatorship, which did not sit well with the pop icon

Britney Spears is stronger than ever following the end of her contentious conservatorship, but she's not entirely thrilled with some of her peers' support, or lack thereof.

We sense an impending friendship breakup on the horizon. Following the "Toxic" singer's social media dig at her longtime Mickey Mouse Club cohort Christina Aguilera, everyone's curious what's going on...and if we've been transported back to the 90s.

Britney Spears Christina Aguilera feud: what's going on?

When questioned about Spears' conservatorship at the 2021 Latin Grammy Awards, Aguilera's publicist abruptly responded, "No, we’re not doing that tonight. I’m sorry. Thank you, though. Bye!” before pulling the pop star away.

Although the red carpet interview was cut short, the "Beautiful" singer did manage to reply: "I can't but I'm happy for her."

This did not sit well with Spears, who took to Instagram to screenshot a picture of Aguilera and wrote: "Refusing to speak when you know the truth, is equivalent to a lie."

The post went on to say: "13 years being in a corrupt abusive system yet why is it such a hard topic for people to talk about??? I'm the one who went through it!!!"

Yikes! Britney Spears deleted her Instagram account earlier this year, but after returning to the platform, she has been extremely vocal, particularly about her situation. It's safe to say she's no longer holding back from anyone or anything.

Did Christina Aguilera defend Britney Spears?

At the height of the pop star's legal battle, plenty of celebs reacted to Britney Spears' conservatorship court hearing, Aguilera being one of them.

In June 2021, she posted across her social media accounts: “It is unacceptable that any woman, or human, wanting to be in control of their own destiny might not be allowed to live life as they wish. To a woman who has worked under conditions and pressure unimaginable to most, I promise you she deserves all of the freedom possible to live her happiest life. My heart goes out to Britney.”

Could this whole interaction have been a misunderstanding? Possibly. Is there something deeper beneath the surface that fans are unaware of? Perhaps. Regardless, here's hoping our reigning 90s pop queens find common ground again.
