Let's go, girls! Little Mix just made history as the first female act to win the coveted Best British Group award at the Brit Awards 2021, beating out fellow nominees Bicep, Biffy Clyro, The 1975, and Young T & Bugsey.

Taking to the stage in matching white gowns—soon-to-be moms Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Anne Pinnock lovingly showing off their baby bumps—the Little Mix members accepted the award from presenters Olly Murs and Adam Lambert. The ladies then took the opportunity to use their acceptance speech to spread a little love to some fellow iconic girl groups that inspired them over the years.

Noting the "white male dominance" and "lack of diversity" that overwhelms the music industry, the group shouted out: "This award isn't just for us. It's for the Spice Girls, Sugababes, All Saints, Girls Aloud. All of the incredible, incredible female bands, this one's for you."

"It's not easy being a female in the UK pop industry," Pinnock said in the speech. "We've seen white male dominance, misogyny, sexism, and lack of diversity. We're proud of how we've stuck together, stood our ground, surrounded ourselves with strong women, and are now using our voices more than ever."

"The fact that a girl band has never won this award really does speak volumes," added bandmate Jade Thirlwall

Who has won Brit Award for British Group?

The first award for Best British Group was bestowed upon a little band you might know called The Beatles, back in 1977. In the 44 years since then, male-dominated musical acts including Oasis, Coldplay, Mumford & Sons, and more have taken home the trophy.

All of the girl groups that Little Mix saluted in their speech were previously up for the Best British Group award, most recently Girls Aloud in 2009, but no female act has ever taken home the award—until now!

Fans were unsurprisingly excited that Little Mix broke the long-standing record and applauded the group's speech. See some reactions below:

Even the Spice Girls themselves got in on the Little Mix love, tweeting: "Congratulations @LittleMix Doing it for the Girls!! #BRITs #GirlPower"
