The past few months have all been about comfort. Between spending more time at home (hello comfy loungewear and workout clothes all day) and dropping temperatures, we're all about being cozy.
So we were excited to learn that the most coveted coat at the moment is the actual embodiment of coziness.
Lyst, the online shop platform, released its ‘Lyst Index’, which details the most bought items during winter 2020. These range from Skims velour tracksuits, Sleeper’s Instagram-famous feather-trimmed PJs, and of course Ugg slippers. The first spot, however, was awarded to The North Face for its bold Nuptse coat.
The North Face 1996 Retro Nuptse coat (opens in new tab) beat out 12,000 other brands and was number one for both men and women. It’s the hottest, most sought-after product of winter and we can see why.
As well as fitting in with the 90s fashion trends nostalgia, the coat is a favorite of many celebs including Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid and Emily Ratajkowski, who are often spotted sporting one.

The coat has a classic, boxy shape, goose down insulation and water repellent finish. It comes to the waist in length, has a thick, cozy collar and a huge hood that is packable.
It also features velcro cuffs at the sleeve and an elastic pull on the hem, making it the perfect coat for the coldest of winter days. The retro coat comes in eight colors for women and sixteen for men and gives the perfect oversized look.
Explaining the success of The North Face's coat, Lyst explained: "In the final quarter of 2020, shoppers sought comfort and protection. Puffer jackets are a breakout category, with searches increasing by 174%, driven by an increase in walking and outdoor socializing.
"For the first time, the same product tops the women’s and men’s rankings: the North Face’s 1996 retro Nuptse jacket, with its distinctive color-block design, is the hottest product in the world."
