While you can never go wrong with classic leather jackets and loafers for fall, apparently the fabric is also set to inspire our scent games, with leather perfumes tipped to top our list of best perfumes this season.

If you're new to the musky note in question, leather brings a certain spiciness and depth to a scent. It's rich, smokey and beyond chic and is actually already a key ingredient in some of our fave fall perfumes—including the iconic Le Labo Santal 33

So, for anyone looking to enter their sophisticated era, here are six leather-centric fragrances from the likes of Tom Ford and Boy Smells, that are guaranteed to invoke those autumnal vibes...

6 leather perfume picks for fall

While leather is typically attributed to that 'new car' smell, this perfume note is soo much more than that. It's aromatic and is often blended with hints of sandalwood and soft white florals—like jasmine.

It's also present in a number of skin scents and is perfect for those who prefer more of a unisex smell, over sweet vanilla perfumes for instance. So, if you're already a lover of scents like Glossier You but are looking for something a tad more mature or smokey, a leather number could be the natural progression. And, it also doesn't hurt that it's very on-trend right now, especially in the wake of New York Fashion Week—where leather dominated the runway.

As The Perfume Shop's fragrance expert, Rebecca Herd notes: "Leather is not only a favorite in the fashion world but also the fragrance world, with the leather scent offering a depth and richness that promotes the sensual and luxurious feel with every spray.

"Leather scents are a staple in a fragrance wardrobe with the sensuality of deep, rich black leather guaranteed to never go out of style." Herd recommends Tom Ford's Ombré Leather (available at Saks) as your next fall perfume go-to.

What does leather smell like?

Leather itself is very distinctive, it smells earthy and slightly heady. It's often used as a base note because of its longevity and is definitely what we would call a 'Quiet Luxury' scent.

As far as perfume goes, you can find scents where leather takes center stage, or find it blended with woody notes (like cedar) or complimented with florals, for a slightly softer but still signature pay-off.
