Need a new show? Of course you do! If you've wondered, "What is Clickbait on Netflix about?" allow us to introduce you to your next TV obsession. Trust us, its twists and turns will inspire you to reshuffle your Netflix queue immediately.

The whole thriller is based on the premise of lies, deceit and social media. In a phone-focused world, playing on apps and searching feeds is nothing out of the ordinary. But what happens when hitting five million views is enough to completely turn someone's world upside down? (And we're not talking about it in that fun viral way, either.)

What is Clickbait on Netflix about?

The eight-episode Netflix series focuses Nick Brewer and a terrible tragedy his family might possibly be forced to endure. Each episode is from a different character's point of view.

The seemingly perfect husband and father surfaces in an online video that alleges he's a monster. He's held hostage as signs depict his supposed sins, such as abuse. It's horrifying, but what's most troubling of all is that he will die if the clip reaches five million views.

Naturally, Nick's wife Sophie, sister Pia and the rest of the family collectively panic as they attempt to set him free before the video hits viral status. But, it also begs the question: what did Nick do to deserve this?

As soon as viewers ask themselves what happened, a web of lies is slowly but surely revealed. It turns out both Nick and his wife were not honest with one another and no one can be completely trusted. A major secret from Nick's past resurfaces and someone turns up dead, ultimately allowing things to spiral out of control.

But the big question is: does Nick's video hit five million views? It's definitely not a good situation, but you'll have to tune in to find out.

Is Clickbait based on a true story?

Well, yes and no.

Co-creators Tony Ayres and Christian White insisted on exploring the Internet as the focal point, especially how it can be used to hurt one another. As a result, Ayres conducted extensive research on cybercrime, and thus Clickbait was born.

"Most of the time these thrillers or murder mysteries are resolved by some version of sociopathy or psychopathy," Ayres told Entertainment Weekly. "I was really interested in the idea that the internet is this Pandora's box that can lead us into all kinds of trouble — trouble that we don't even understand. Especially if you go into it innocently."

Where is Clickbait filmed?

Although it's a Bay Area-set series, Clickbait was actually filmed primarily in Melbourne, Australia, according to The Mercury News
