Despite makeup trends heading more towards dewy no-makeup-makeup looks and ‘wet skin’ this year, we’re always open to something a bit bolder—which leads us onto a certain eyeliner trend we’ve been spotting on all our favorite a-listers. Give a very warm welcome to the colored eyeliner trend.
The beauty of a colored liner is that it can be whatever color you fancy, whether you want it to coordinate with your outfit or have it be a bright statement, like Riri’s red eyeliner.
Plus this trend still fits with the whole minimal, fresh makeup thing that seems to be so popular right now, because it’s just a hint of color and is super wearable. It’s the perfect way to just add a little something to your look, especially if you’re in a rush or want to transform a day look into a night look easily.
The liner works so well with natural makeup, fluffy brows, and slicked-back hair because the attention goes straight to your eyes—and don’t worry if you don’t have the steadiest hand for winged eyeliner, we’ve got the best eyeliner tips for beginners.
You need only cast your eye down the likes of Rihanna’s or Ariana Grande’s Instagram to know a colored liner is very much IN.
We’ve spotted Ari sporting white liner, which is dropping for REM beauty. She wore it above her lid, giving minimal, space vibes.

Dua Lipa showed off a dramatic, green liner when modeling for Versace, and even Hailey Bieber has been repping a holographic wing—which is perfect for the holidays.

Another fan of the trend is Zendaya who has sported a blue electric look at the Dune premiere, and a seriously edgy 60s inspired white and black liner for her InStyle shoot—the possibilities are endless!
What makes this trend so versatile also comes down to the products at our disposal. You can either use a liquid-colored liner for a sharp, precise line or just use a bit of primer and any of your favorite eyeshadows. And let's not forget glitter, a glitter liner will never not be adorable.
