My Imperfect Life Verdict

The Glossier product I never knew I needed, but now I have it—I'll never go back!

Reasons to buy
  • +

The smell is so soft and comforting but really does last all day!

  • +

Love that it's refillable with three different scent options

  • +

Doesn't leave an uncomfortable residue or any white marks on my underarm

Reasons to avoid
  • -

Does not prevent sweat stains on white tees

  • -

Doesn't necessarily prevent you from sweating but does seem to combat an odor

As someone who's never used an aluminum-free deodorant before, I tried the new, refillable Glossier deodorant and here's what I thought...

While we all patiently await Glossier coming to Sephora, the brand—synonymous with its skin-first ethos and millennial pink packaging—hasn't been sleeping on the new product launches. Along with the return of Wild Fig and the new Balm Dot Com formulas, Glossier just released a new, refillable deodorant in three dreamy scents—including their signature "Glossier You" perfume (which is widely regarded as one of the best perfumes for women as well as one of the best long-lasting perfumes you can wear).

The odor-wicking stick is made without aluminum, baking soda, exfoliating acids, or water—aka all the ingredients that can disrupt your natural PH levels causing that *stink* and irritation to your underarms.

So as someone whose favorite compliment to receive is about how good I smell and as an aluminum-free deo virgin, I thought my pits would be the perfect test subject for this latest addition to the Glossier body range.

Here's my review of the Glossier deodorant in scent Orange Blossom Neroli...

A beauty writer's honest review of the Glossier deodorant

Now, before I fully jump into the review, allow me to fill you in on my usual antiperspirant preferences and requirements—plus how I put the Glossier deo through its paces...

My skin and sweat (lol)

So, I have quite sensitive skin, but despite this, I've always used antiperspirant sprays from all the usual suspects: Sure, Nivea and Dove (even under a few dire circumstances, Lynx and Sure Men). Name a "48 hours protection" promising spray and I've tried it. But alas, thanks to all those 20-something hormones, I still sweat through the day—worse still I'm also an anxious perspirer, so I take my deo and perfume game very seriously.

As you can imagine, I was therefore very skeptical about this aluminum-free Glossier deodorant—especially after reading the (very aesthetic) packaging to discover that if you're swapping straight from an aluminum spray to this one, things might get worse before they get better. Or as Glossier eloquently put: "If you’ve been using deodorants with aluminum, it may take up to four weeks for your armpits to adjust to a formula without aluminum and as a result, you may experience excess sweating temporarily."

Now, my experience won't be the same as everyone's—but I can confirm I was pleasantly surprised by how my armpits responded to the swap...

What's in the Glossier Deodorant

As mentioned, the Glossier deodorant is an aluminum and baking soda-free deodorant formulated with superfruit elderberry extract and coconut oil, which both work to keep you underarm nourished while helping to reduce odors. It also contains potato starch to absorb moisture and magnesium hydroxide—a pH-adjuster and absorbent that helps to reduce sweat stains. It's also dermatologist-tested and cruelty-free

The scent I tested is the Orange Blossom Neroli which features fresh and fruity perfume notes of pear, mandarin and cypress.

How did I test the Glossier deodorant?

So, what rigorous testing did I put this deodorant through, you ask? Well, I've worn it every day for four weeks, where it's endured sweaty gym visits, a panicked jog to the train station, several walks to the shops, and even a few nights of sleep where I've reapplied before bed, post-shower.

Now, without further ado, onto my review...

My Glossier Deodorant experience

Going into this, I really didn't have high hopes for this deodorant nor did I think it would be a game-changer for me—but boy was I wrong.

This deodorant is a joy to use. I don't know if I'm just totally hypnotized by the cozy fresh scent of the Orange Blossom Neroli refill but I don't really have a bad word to say about it.

I've used it every day for over three weeks now and didn't find that—as a newbie to aluminum-free deodorant—it made me any sweatier. In fact, I've found that my underarms stayed fresh all day and throughout the day I even get a whiff of that dreamy neroli aroma.

I did, however, find that I needed to reapply before heading to the gym in the evening—but that's no different from any other deodorant I've used before. It also doesn't necessarily stop you from sweating, so if you're looking for something that will prevent any excess sweat, this might not be the one for you. That being said, I found that any perspiration just smelt like the deodorant and personally, I've never found a spray or roll-on that's prevented any sweat at all. For me, it's all about freshness and smell—which this stick definitely delivered on.

Glossier, Deodorant

RRP: $22/£18

This refillable deodorant is available in three scents, Glossier You, Orange Blossom Neroli and Sandstone as well as an unscented option, for anyone who finds fragrance irritates their underarms.

The deodorant itself is formulated without aluminum, baking soda, exfoliating acids or water and instead has a coconut oil base with ingredients like superfruit elderberry extract, magnesium hydroxide and potato starch to keep your pits fresh and nourished.

As mentioned it's refillable, meaning you keep the white case but purchase new sticks when required—plus you can test out all the scents!

T-shirt stain-wise, I didn't notice anything major—though during the first week of wearing this deodorant, I did find that one of my white tees suffered slightly—but no permanent damage was done! So if you're transitioning from aluminum to aluminum-free deodorants, I'd recommend steering clear of your favorite white tees for the first few weeks.

So, my overall verdict? I'm obsessed with it. I love the smell— it makes me feel so cozy, fresh and weirdly comforted every time I apply it. If Glossier makes this scent into an actual perfume, I'll be all over it. I've also found that my underarms feel softer and I've experienced no irritation.

I'm pleased to say that this deodorant is now a permanent addition to my morning beauty routine and it's safe to say, I'll be trying ALL the scents!
