It's not hard to reach viral status, and trending hashtags on TikTok make it easier than ever to snag 15 minutes of digital fame.

Whether you have a style hack or a recipe that's about to change the game (hello, pesto eggs), a pocket of social media is at the ready.

Curious what's trending before it becomes the Internet's next big thing? We'll tell you how to keep up with what's popular and how to stay ahead of the curve. Let's rock 'n roll!

For those who are new to the platform, here's the scoop: you'll be able to find your favorite content on your "for you" page. (You'll notice many a #FYP hashtag floating around.) This is how you'll uncover popular videos from people you follow and other like-minded accounts. Think of this as your starting point.

1. Discover tool

The discover tool, located on the bottom left of the FYP, will provide a slew of hashtags and other trending pieces, including songs and searches. From here, you'll be able to snag up-to-date info and click on whatever strikes your fancy. To refresh, reload your FYP.

2. #trendalert

If you want to take things a step further, have a gander at hashtag #trendalert (opens in new tab), which has 249.1 millions views and counting. Here, you'll be able to see new dances, challenges and so on that are making the rounds on accounts all over the world.

Top hashtags on TikTok:

Per the Australia-based marketing company eDigital (opens in new tab), users are only allowed to put 33 hashtags in each post, and the hashtag's power will increase if used alongside a challenge. The top hashtags are rather generic but include:

  • #funny 1.2 trillion view
  • #Comedy 1.1 trillion views
  • #viralvideo 309 billion views
  • #follow 214 billion views

Niche hashtags that are garnering attention include:

  • #prank 194 billion views
  • #MakeUp 177 billion views
  • #dog 173 billion views
  • #skincare 55 billion views
  • #workout 52 billion views
  • #Foodie 50bbillion views

Now that you have a better idea how to search what you're looking for, it'll be all the more easy to find the perfect video. Have a look at a few of our favorite recent viral haghtags and what we love about them.

1. #Bonesday

Bones or no bones, that is the question!  Jonathan Graziano (@jongraz) has his 13-year-old pug Noodle are the talk of the town and have stepped in as canine clairvoyants.

If Noodle stands up out of his doggy bed and faces the challenge head-on, it's a "bones day." If he plops himself back down, it's a "no bones day," aka a time for TLC.

2. #Ghostface

Although Halloween has come to a close, one of its most popular villains is still enjoying time in the spotlight. #ghostface and #ghostfacecult, which takes things a step further by changing your profile picture to the person or object in question, is (thankfully) just a way to show that you love Wes Craven's 90s horror flick.

With over 9 billion views and counting, we must ask: does it get any purer than this? We could lose ourselves for hours looking at these adorable pups.

(Psst: we've also rounded up the best TikTok recipes for your convenience. We won't name any favorites, but pesto eggs are a must-try!)

 6. #Workouttips

Considering TikTok has gifted us with the viral yoga pants we all need (Seasum High Waist Yoga Pants; they have a butt-lifting effect) it's only fitting that the app features some killer exercise tips and tricks (like the coregasm, which is popular for more than just its physical effects). Running, weigh lifting, ab workouts, resistance band tips—they're all here.
